Thrifting and Flipping

I love thrifting! Thrifting is like a treasure hunt and to me, thrifting is not just about finding a bargain but discovering the beauty or usefulness in the ordinary or distressed. Having said that, I hate paying full price for anything! I thrift everything from clothing, home decor to houses. Yes, houses! I have made a business out of flipping houses, which I consider a category of thrifting… I am always on the hunt for that property in poor condition that nobody else wants because I can visualize what it could be. I purchased my first distressed property roughly 20 years ago from a bank auction, renovated it and brought it back to life and ever since I have been hooked on hunting for distressed properties to renovate. The thing about thrifters is that we can see the potential an item has regardless of its current place or state, where others would have a hard time. The properties I have purchased are neglected with broken systems and some are down right disgusting – but I can see the potential. Whether it be a trinket at the Goodwill or a house, I have the ability to see beyond the distress to what an item or a place could be with a little (or a lot) of love, and I gain such satisfaction when I complete a project and see my vision come to light. Transforming a house that was initially inhabitable into a cute and liveable space is so satisfying. So, whether it is stumbling upon a designer jacket at the thrift store or a cute piece of art or home decor, the thrill of thrifting is more than just the price tag, it is in the treasure hunt itself and then giving your find a new purpose.

BEFORE ~ One of the properties I purchased for renovation. The front porch was completely caved in so you could not even access the front entrance. It was in rough shape.

AFTER ~ We renovated this house top to bottom and it was one of the cutest homes we did. I adore this sweet cozy house! Something about a little red house… ❥
