Last year a massive tree fell on our house and destroyed our roof and tore into our bedroom just barely missing us as we slept. We didn’t realize what was happening initially as we were woken from a sound sleep- the sound was so loud we thought a plane was crashing, it was terrifying! I still suffer from PTSD every time we have a windstorm, but thankfully we were all Ok.
We count our lucky blessings that no one was hurt. The insurance company covered most of the repairs, we had our roof replaced, rebuilt all the chimneys and repaired the exterior and interior walls. We also took it upon ourselves to have all the trees around the house that posed a threat removed. It was pricey but worth it.
We don’t often think ahead in life because we are busy living in the moment. But my advice is to make sure you have good home insurance! It is an expense you don’t want to scrimp on because you never know when disaster will strike, and if and when it does you will be wishing you did. And examine the trees around your house, if they pose a threat have them removed.
